Family run, Knoll House Hotel enjoys a unique position on the Dorset coast with views over Studland Bay and its famous three mile beach. The hotel provides guests with a traditional country-house holiday by the sea. Chris Ferguson, one of the hotel's family owners, recognised that their IT infrastructure needed upgrading, however, he didn't want to compromise the hotel with ugly wiring and trunking. His initial equirement was simply to upgrade their offi ce dial up Internet access to Broadband, but, once he recognised the unobtrusive nature of Wireless LAN, this requirement increased to offering wireless access to the Internet for guests and staff.
When the Jurassic Coast met the 21st Century
As the hotel employs a number of foreign staff who live on site, the owners decided to provide them with the bonus of free Internet access to allow them to keep in touch with friends and family. Most mportantly, guests were increasingly asking about Internet access and Chris Ferguson recognised the goodwill that would be generated in offering this service free of charge. Knoll House Hotel contacted Ensign to install wireless hotspots in different areas with separate secure access for guests, off duty staff and business use. Knoll House insisted on using the best wireless equipment available, so Ensign installed and commissioned a Cisco router with wireless access points and provided cabling and support. The service is offered with the reassurance that if anything goes wrong a member of Ensign's staff will be on-site in a matter of hours to fix it.
"Knoll House is a traditional, family run hotel with tried and tested systems and procedures, we are happy to embrace new technology when we know it is proven. The benefit of our relationship with Ensign is
that we can offer a high-tech service without being bothered with IT problems, leaving us to focus on the comfort of our guests."
- Christopher Ferguson, family-owner of Knoll House Hotel, Studland Bay
