The National Water Sports Centre at Holme Pierrepont, located in 270 acres of country parkland, on the River Trent, offers some of the most comprehensive water sports facilities in the world. The main water-based Governing Bodies, including the Amateur Rowing Association, British Canoe Union, and British Water Ski, all have a base at the Centre and make regular use of the facilities. Regattas take place on the 2000m lake most weekends. The organisation of hundreds of racing participants and the collection and distribution of start lists and race results with split timings is a complex operation. The problem was how to collect and distribute racing information to officials scattered about the large site. Ensign worked with event timing and technology specialists HS Sports to provide wireless coverage down the length of the course using nine wireless bridge links. This allowed wireless network connectivity to the Start hut, Linesman's hut, six Officials huts (situated at measured intervals along the length of the course), and the Finish and Marshalling areas. The key to the overall success of competitive water sports is the ability to collect and distribute information including start lists, and race results to the right people at the right time. HS Sports provision of timing equipment, wireless data terminals and laptops together with Ensign's wireless knowledge and expertise have assisted the National Water Sports Centre to become a training ground for our country's leading water sportsmen and women. | ||||||
